Maple City Health Care Center Appoints New Executive Director
The Maple City Health Care Center board announces the appointment of Paul Shetler Fast to an initial 3-year term as its next Executive Director. Shetler Fast will begin his full-time work on October 24, 2022. Prior to that, Paul will engage in listening work with staff and key community leaders.
Sarah Metzler, MCHCC’s board president said, “We value and seek to honor the vision that has guided the organization since the beginning. We are confident that Paul, our staff, and the leadership team of Maple City Health Care Center will build on the strong foundation already in place as they carry our mission forward. The board looks forward to a future where our organization increases opportunities for deeper collaboration across the entire community and anticipates new possibilities for service.”
Ms. Metzler added, “Paul has a high level of cultural competency and humility. He has demonstrated the ability to listen deeply within diverse cultures and sectors and to find strategic solutions in collaboration with others. We believe he is uniquely qualified and that he brings the right gifts to this work at the right time.”
Paul Shetler Fast has held various leadership positions in hospital administration within the Veterans Health Administration system. He served for 5 years in Haiti with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), as country director, overseeing health services. Most recently he has been serving as Director of Global Health programs for MCC. In this capacity, Paul has worked to support and oversee community-based health services organizations in 47 countries around the world.
Paul currently teaches public health for undergraduate and graduate students at Goshen College and serves on several local boards including the Elkhart County Board of Health and Mosaic, a health care organization in Goshen. Paul, his wife Rebecca, and their two children live in Goshen.

Sarah Metzler, concluded, “As members of Maple City Health Care Center’s board of directors, we deeply appreciate the work of our health center’s staff and leadership team. They assured critical services during difficult times. We are extremely grateful for the steady and capable interim leadership provided by Ms. Charlene Mast. Charlene will continue to be responsible for operations until Paul begins his work full time. We anticipate that Charlene will continue in a significant role beyond that date.”
